Home Again

Gorman and I had a wonderful time on our trip to Long Island and Newport, RI. We liked riding all the ferries to get from one place to another, so much water everywhere and pretty vistas around every corner. We stayed at a great inn in Newport, so nice that we hated to leave it every morning to go exploring. The weather was delightful, mid-seventies during the day and low sixties at night with no humidity. Gorman felt just fine. He still gets tired pretty easily but I have to gently remind him that age could play a role in that.

We got home Tuesday night, in time for an Avastin infusion Wednesday. Gorman likes getting those because it’s our one step in fighting the cancer. His next MRI has been scheduled for Monday, Sept. 9 and will be done at Mobile Infirmary. I’m sure there will be some complication in switching his MRIs from UAB to a local facility but without a clinical trial, it seemed to make sense to “transfer treatment”, so to speak, back down here. We want to keep Dr. Nabors (UAB) in the loop and will probably go back from time to time to see him but he is now under Dr. Mike Meshad’s care at Southern Cancer Center and we go there for the Avastin infusions, just a 25 minute drive.

Today is our anniversary. We are so grateful to be celebrating 44 years, as I always say, by the grace of God!

Thank you all for your prayers and please keep them coming as we approach another MRI.

  1. Gorman, the only single nephew I have (age 30) just became engaged to be married to a very fine young lady from Newport, RI. He is a Tennessee boy who attended Ole Miss and she is a Rhode Island girl who attended Bama. He tells me that Newport is the prettiest place he has seen outside of the South. I may have to call on yall for the name of the Inn! Best wishes to you both and it is great to hear of the wonderful trip and that you are back home safely. Happy Anniversary! Your friend and brother in Christ. Gary

  11. Beverly and Gorman,
We’re thrilled for your marvelous trip–and jealous of the cooler weather. One of these days we’re going to get to Fairhope and see your gallery of travel photographs–we think we want two to be our travel planners! Congratulations on getting to move the medical care to Mobile most of the time; that gives you so much more time to play at home or at the condo–or plan more trips. Know that we have your names on our calendar for September 9th–just after OUR 44th anniversary. Aren’t we all blessed beyond measure?
    love you both,
    gloria and jim

  12. Glad your home safe and had a wonderful trip. Happy Anniversary!!! Didn’t know yours is almost the same as mine. August 16th we celebrated 39 wonderful years together. Tell Gorman maybe by the time I get his age I can celebrate 44. Ha Ha. We are still praying for you both and God is so good. Take care and God Bless.

We’ve been keeping up with you both during our time away and are so glad that everything is going well and that you have been enjoying your summer mini vacations. We leave Colorado the day after your next MRI and hope to see you both with smiles on your faces, at church on September 14th.
